Chemicals and fuels from microbial conversion of waste CO2 [Registered]

The California based startup company Oakbio has developed a microbe-based CO2 capturing (from waste industrial gas streams) and conversion technology that can produce a wide range of value-added chemicals and fuels. Microbes have been identified and adapted to grow in darkness, under conditions where their only source of carbon is CO2 gas and their only source of energy is H2 gas. Since H2 can be generated on site using renewable energy, and CO2 removal from flue gas prevents atmospheric release of greenhouse gas, this process provides a novel route for the production of sustainable chemicals and fuels.
