Cargill’s head of sugar unit is a major casualty amidst global rationalisation [Registered]

Continued weakness in the global economy has enforced Cargill to reduce its 138,00 workforce by 2000 over the next six months – the biggest casualty is the head of its sugar business, reports Financial Times. The widely respected Jonathan Drake who joined Cargill as a graduate trainee in 1985 built up its sugar division from scratch “into the largest player in the business”. Cargill is the leading sugar trader, followed by Sucres et Denrées, Louis Dreyfus, ED&F Man, Bunge, Wilmar and Glencore.
