Cane-based ethanol for commercial scale polypropylene plant [Registered]
THE Brazilian petrochemicals company Braskem is planning to start up an industrial-scale plant producing ‘green’ polypropylene in 2013 from cane-based ethanol. The plant would have a capacity of at least 30,000 t/y which is smaller than a .conventional propylene plant, which can reach capacities of well over 500,000 t/y. The plant is likely to cost around $100m. Polypropylene production is likely to commence in the second half of 2013. The conceptual phase of the project has been satisfactorily undertaken by Braskem.
