Canada – Rogers Sugar to lay off 59 employees at Lantic Sugar [Registered]

Rogers Sugar recently announced that it will trim its staff force at Lantic Sugar’s Montreal refinery by 59 employees through a combination of layoffs, early retirements and voluntary departures. This represents 15% reduction in the current workforce. In making the announcement, Ed Makin, President and CEO of Lantic said “In order to remain competitive” in the global market, particularly since unlike other protected markets, “The Canadian sugar industry operates in an open market” it has “to improve production efficiencies”.
