Butamax, a joint venture between BP and DuPont, won a lawsuit against Gevo, who had alleged that Butamax had infringed its biobutanol production technology patents. Biobutanol is superior to ethanol – it is as energy dense as gasoline, it is more compatible with existing fuel infrastructure, especially pipelines, and it can be blended with gasoline at higher concentrations compared to ethanol.
