British Sugar responsive to beet growers plight as freeze-thaw conditions ruin beet [Registered]

Beet growers are facing losses some £15 million following freeze-thaw conditions during December-January resulting in beet rotting in both fields and clamps. British Sugar has been in talks with the NFU (National Farmers Union) to find ways of helping growers mitigate losses. According to Farmers Weekly around 40% of the crop destined for the Newark factory is being written off after British Sugar admitted that it was a futile exercise to blend in low-quality within areas supplying the factory.
