Breakthrough in vehicle fuel-cell technology – hydrogen can be released on demand [Registered]
Researchers at the University of Southern California claim to have developed a safe and robust way of storing hydrogen and releasing it for on-demand use in fuel cells for cars. Prof Travis Williams and colleagues devised a way to efficiently catalyse the release of hydrogen from ammonia borane. Hydrogen makes a great fuel because it can easily be converted to electricity in a fuel cell and because it is carbon free.
