Breakthrough in producing metallic glasses that are also ductile [Registered]

A long-sought goal in metallic glasses is to impart ductility without conceding their strength and elastic limit. Researchers from Yale and Texas Tech Universities have proposed a way of predicting whether a given glass will be brittle or ductile – a desirable property typically associated with metals like steel or aluminium – and assert that any glass could have either quality.
