Brazilian millers expand sugar production over the less profitable ethanol [Registered]

Brazilian cane mills are opting to produce more sugar than ethanol this season according to Reuters citing data from the industry body Unica. Mills turned a corner in harvest in July, breaking free of wet weather in May and June that kept crushing bogged down. In July, center-south mills produced 5.6 million tonnes of sugar. That is 45 percent of the 12.29 million tonnes output this season so far, which started in April. For the first time this season, mills are surpassing cane crushing rates of last year.
