Brazil to import 1 billion litres ethanol [Registered]

Brazil will import 1.1 billion litres of anhydrous ethanol in the 2011/12 season (April to March) to meet increasing local demand and to cover local supply shortfalls, according to the sugarcane industry association Unica. Brazil imported 78 million litres of the fuel in the previous season. The volume imported accounts for 4% of the national production while the drop in output will be over 15% from last season, stated Marcos Jank, Unica’s president to Reuters on the sidelines of a seminar in Sao Paulo.
