The queue of ships waiting to load sugar at Brazil’s ports now stands at 97, shipping agency Unimar stated, a signal that strong demand might have begun to ease. A long line of bulk carriers formed at the southern, Atlantic ports of Santos and Paranagua at the start of the current cane harvest, after unusually strong demand among importing nations. Ships have frequently had to wait as much as a month to load and a period of wet weather in July occasionally brought loading to a standstill to avoid damage to the cargo.
