Brazil – Sugar cane production growth lowest in six years [Registered]

Expansion in sugar cane production in Brazil in 2011 was lowest over a six year period according to research by the Municipal Agricultural Production (PAM) released in late October by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Cane output in 2011 stood at 427,364,854 tonnes. This is only 0.2% higher than the 2010 output, noted the report. In the state of São Paulo, the harvested acreage grew by 4.4% (219,207 hectares).
