Brazil – Cane output in centre-south in 2012/13 unlikely to breach 550 million tonnes says Raizen [Registered]

Raizen, a joint venture between Brazil’s Cosan and Royal Dutch Shell, expects sugarcane output in Brazil’s main producing region to reach 535 million tonnes (mt) in 2012/13, according to Ivan Melo Filho, Raizen’s commercial director, speaking to Reuters. He did, however, qualify that the probable range maybe between 500 mt and 550 mt. Filho acknowledged that “huge problems related to weather”, which included a frost during the growing season exacerbated the issue of aging cane reducing productivity from 89 t/ha to 69 t/ha.
