Brazil – ethanol production drops, gasoline imports surge, sugar output boosted on higher profits [Registered]

With significant cane production coming from ratooned crops whose productivity levels decrease with time compared with plant crops, this has had an inevitable knock-on effect on ethanol output in Brazil’s main center-south production region. According to UNICA, the sugarcane industry group, over the period 1April to 15 August, ethanol production fell by 19% to 12 billion litres compared with the same period in 2010.
