Braskem launches a new line of biobased plastic from cane ethanol [Registered]

Braskem, the world’s largest biopolymer producer, recently announced the launch of its new line of green low-density polyethylene (LDPE). The production of the new resin will amount to approximately 30,000 tonnes and is expected to hit the market in January 2014. Braskem has been producing on an industrial scale high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) made from ethanol produced from cane sugar since September 2010. It has properties identical to those of traditional polyethylene. The company also introduced a line of polyethylene resins for carbonated beverage caps, which will be available in the second half of this year.…
