BP to wind up its US cellulosic biofuels operation in early 2015 [Full subscriber]

The production of cellulosic biofuels from lignocellulosic feedstocks on commercial scale has been a slow process. Only few commercial scale plants have recently come online. All of these have capacities that is around quarter of first generation technologies using starch or sugar as feedstocks –which have capacities of 100 million gallons. Further, the current drop in oil price to below U$60/barrel is a blow to the fledgling industry.…
