Biofuel mandates in Turkey to commence from 2013 [Registered]

In an effort to kick-start the biofuels sector and address current account deficit from fuel imports, the Turkish energy regulator recently announced plans for biofuel mandates. From January 1, 2013, an E-2 mandate (i.e. gasoline added with 2% ethanol) is to be introduced rising to E-3 from 2014. Additionally, from 2014, a B-1 mandate (for biodiesel) is to be introduced, rising to B-3 in 2016. According to F.O. Licht estimates, a nationwide B-1 mandate would translate into a biodiesel demand of 100,000 tonnes annually, while E-2 would require 60 million litres of fuel ethanol.…
