Bangladesh – state sugar mills raise prices [Registered]

Mill-gate price of sugar was raised by 13% to Tk 60 (U$0.80) per kg according to Ferdous Begum from Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) and reported in Daily Star recently. This is a second rise this year – in June, the state-run agency increased the sugar price from Tk 45 to Tk53. Production costs were cited as the reason for the hike in prices. This increase comes a week after private sugar refiners increased factory gate prices to Tk 64 (by Tk 4) in response to rise in import costs. The retail prices of sugar, however, remained stable…
