Bagasse-based n-butanol to be jointly developed by Cobalt and Rhodia [Registered]
US companies Cobalt Technologies and Rhodia recently announced that they are partnering to develop bio n-butanol refineries throughout Latin America. Under the terms of the agreement, the partnership involves deploying Cobalt’s technology for the conversion of cane bagasse into n-butanol for the chemicals and fuels market. Following a successful testing of the technology in a demonstration plant in Brazil, the parties intend to construct multiple bio-refineries co-located with sugar mills, first in Brazil and then in other Latin American countries.
