Avantium partners with Rhodia to develop biobased polyamides [Registered]

Rhodia and Avantium recently announced that they have entered into a partnership to jointly develop a range of new biobased polyamides. This partnership extends the previously announced development agreement in the field of biobased engineering plastics between Solvay (which owns Rhodia) and Avantium. Rhodia will bring to the partnership its know-how in polyamides to combine with Avantium’s YXY technology to produce building blocks for green materials. Produced from plant-based sugars, biobased polyamides are claimed “to applicative performances at a competitive cost”.
