Australia – Mackay Sugar’s overhauled cogen plant to export 30% of the generated power [Registered]

Newly overhauled bagasse based cogeneration plant at Mackay Sugar’s Racecourse Mill came online 15th November. By February next year, the plant shall be supplying almost a third of the electricity in the Mackay region. The A$120 million investment included installation of more efficient boilers and a new steam turbine generator. A small part of this is government funding, with the bulk coming from Mackay Sugar. “We anticipate a payback over approximately seven years,” the company’s business development manager, John Hodgson, said.
