Aquaculture is a fast growing segment of agriculture. The manufacture of feeds for shrimps or prawns is important in Asia where 90% of the global aquaculture production is found. A number of specific issues affect the manufacturing of aquaculture feeds. For example, feeds are delivered and consumed in water and shrimps feed slowly; feeds must, therefore, remain physically and chemically stable in water for several hours. Shrimps are considerably smaller than terrestrial animals, having a marketable weight of about 20 grams; this impacts on the size of feed particles.
