Analyst Datagro downgrades Brazil’s sugarcane output [Registered]

A 60-day dry spell – starting in early April and ending in mid-June – in Brazil’s key Centre/South region has worsened crop conditions that were already bad due to a long dry spell in 2010 and a lack of investment in the renewal of cane fields over the past few years, local analyst Datagro said. Combination of pest and disease outbreaks, and early flowering adversely impacting on sugar content and thereby fostering a speedy harvest, are taking their toll.
