Al-Ghurair Group to invest U$500 million in new beet sugar project in Egypt [Registered]

An Emirati company, the Al-Ghurair Group is investing U$500 million to build a 400,000 tonnes beet sugar factory in Egypt, reported Egypt Independent. “Along with the industrial undertaking, the Emirati company will also undertake to grow sugar beet on 200,000 feddans (84,000 hectares). There will also be provision to cultivate other crops like wheat and corn to bridge the food gap and expand farmlands,” Industry and Foreign Trade Minister Hatem Saleh was quoted as saying. The plant will be allocated 100 feddans at the Abu Khalifa industrial zone in Ismailia, as agreed with its governor, and will secure 30,000 jobs.…
