AB Sugar drives profit growth of ABF [Registered]
AB Sugar, against expectations, help boost profits of its parent company Associated British Foods which posted a 17 percent rise in full-year profit. AB Sugar produced an operating profit of £510 million (U$879 million), up 62% from the previous year. The overall revenue was up by 25% at £2666 million. Increases in both agricultural and manufacturing productivities were the major contributory factors in supporting the financial success. In the UK, the absence of the weather-related challenges of last year resulted in the production of 1.3 million tonnes of sugar compared with just under 1.0 million tonnes in 2011.
